We are situated at 14 Wadala, very close to the Wadala Depot. Indian Furniture Mart is basically a big workshop and a bit of a showroom combined into one. It’s usually quite noisy because of the saws and the hammering going on in the back. We make all sorts of wooden stuff, like cupboards, beds, and tables. The place is full of sawdust and the smell of varnish most of the time. I started this shop because I learned carpentry from my father. It’s a family trade that we just kept going. We don’t have any glossy catalogs or a fancy sales team. You just walk in and look at what we’ve already made, or we can talk about making something specific for your house. The floor is always covered in wood shavings, no matter how much we sweep. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but the depot being nearby helps people find us. We aren't trying to be one of those modern furniture brands. We just use solid wood and try to make things that won't fall apart after a year. Some days we are just sitting around waiting for the wood to arrive, and other days we are working late into the night to finish a delivery. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy. We like the neighborhood even though it gets a bit crowded with all the buses moving in and out all day.
