Our shop is tucked away at 16 Andheri East Indera Nagar, and it is pretty much what you would expect from a local engineering spot. Hindustan Engineering Co has been here for a good while now, and the place has a lot of character, mostly in the form of oil stains on the floor and the constant hum of the machines. It is not the kind of place where you will find fancy furniture or a quiet lobby. Instead, we have got workbenches piled with tools and metal parts that we are currently working on. The air usually smells like cutting oil and cold steel, which is just how it is in this part of Indera Nagar. Being in Andheri East means there is always noise from the street, but once the shutters are up and the fans are spinning, we mostly just focus on the job at hand. We spend our mornings checking the equipment and making sure everything is running right. Sometimes the heat gets to be a bit much in the afternoon, so we take turns grabbing tea from the stall nearby. It is a straightforward operation where we handle whatever comes through the door. Most of us have been working with our hands for years, so we do not spend much time talking when there is work to be done. It is a practical space for people who don't mind a bit of dust and a lot of hard work every single day.
