Our shop is number 50/A, tucked inside the Maharaja Chawl area. If you are familiar with Masjid Bunder West, then you already know how crowded and loud the streets get, especially near the S Masjid Bunder section. We are situated right opposite the Burhani Masjid, which is a very clear landmark for anyone trying to find their way through the narrow lanes. The shop itself is not very big at all, but we somehow manage to fit everything we need inside the space we have. It is a very old-school type of place, the kind of shop you find all over this historic part of the city. Being in a chawl means you are always living and working close to your neighbors, and there is always some kind of activity or conversation happening in the lane right outside the door. We open up the shutters every morning and just deal with whatever the day brings. The street outside is usually full of wooden carts and people moving heavy goods back and forth on their shoulders. It is a tight squeeze sometimes when the deliveries arrive. We have been operating from this little spot for a good while now. You really get used to the sounds of the prayers from the mosque and the general buzz of the market. It is a practical place for a supplying agency because everything and everyone is right here in the center of the action.
