Gokul Watch

You can find Gokul Watch at Shop No. 5 on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Goregaon East. We’ve been in this little spot for a long time. It’s a small shop, barely enough room for three people to stand inside at once. Most of the walls are covered with different types of clocks and watches. Some of them are quite old and have been sitting there for years. We do a lot of battery replacements and fixing straps while people wait. It’s a quiet kind of work. The ticking of all the clocks makes a nice sound once you get used to it, though some people find it a bit much. My father started this shop, and now I’m the one mostly running it. We don't do any big promotions. People just know us because we’ve been here on MG Road forever. Sometimes the parts we need for an old watch are hard to find, so we have to tell the customer to wait a week or two. We don't have a computer system, so all the receipts are written by hand in a big ledger. It might seem a bit old-fashioned to some, but it works for us and our customers don't seem to mind. We just focus on doing a decent job and making sure the watches keep time. It’s steady work and we like being part of the neighborhood. MG Road is always noisy but inside shop number 5 it’s always the same calm feeling.
