You can find us right on the Pune Mumbai Highway 5 in Goregaon East. Gokul Electronics has been sitting here by the road for quite a while now. Being near the highway means we get all sorts of people stopping by at random hours. Some are just passing through and need a cable or a battery for their car, while others are locals who have been coming to us for years. The shop gets a lot of dust because of all the traffic and construction outside, so we’re always wiping down the counters with an old cloth. We sell basic electronics—stuff that people actually use every day in their homes. We don’t have those fancy displays that light up and change colors every five seconds. Our shelves are made of thick wood and they’ve started to sag a bit under the weight of the older TV models we still have in stock. It’s just a few of us working here. We take turns going to get lunch from the small food stall down the road. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour and we just sit on the front step and talk until the lights come back on. It’s not a corporate life at all. We know the other shop owners nearby and we all look out for each other. If someone comes in looking for something we don't have, we don't mind sending them to the guy across the street. We’re just here.
