Working out of Maker Bhavan in New Marine Lines means dealing with the typical Mumbai rush every single day. Our space is on the fifth floor of building number two, which gives us a bit of a distance from the street noise below. It’s a bit of a walk up if the elevator is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like. The office has that lived-in feel, with shelves full of binders and desks that have seen better days. From the window, you can catch glimpses of the city moving around us. We spend a lot of time here, mostly dealing with the logistics and the back-office stuff that keeps everything else running. It’s not a glamorous setup, just desks, computers, and a lot of conversations. Being in this part of town, you get used to the fast pace. We have our routine down, from the morning coffee to the late afternoon slump when we usually send someone out for snacks. The walls are a plain off-white and there isn’t much on them except for a few calendars and some old notes taped up near the light switches. It's a functional space for people who have a lot to do. We don’t put on any shows here; what you see is what you get when you step out of that elevator. The paperwork never really ends, but we get through it eventually.
