You can find Fodkar Mechanical Engineering Works at Gala 5/A on the 1st Ghodapdeo Cross Lane. We are located right in the heart of Mazgaon, near Reay Road. This area has always been an industrial hub, and our shop has been here for a long time. It’s a typical Mumbai gala, which means it’s not very spacious, but we have managed to fit in all the machines we need for our mechanical work. We handle a lot of repair jobs and sometimes we make custom parts that are hard to find elsewhere. The air in the shop always has that smell of machine oil and cut metal, which I’ve grown to like over the years. A lot of our work comes from the transport and shipping companies that operate around the docks. We don’t do any advertising; we just rely on people knowing we are here and that we can fix things. The lighting isn't great inside the gala, so we often have to use hand lamps to see what we are doing on the more detailed jobs. It can be a real squeeze when we have three or four people working inside at the same time. We usually have a bit of a waitlist for bigger jobs, so we just take them one by one. It’s hard, physical work, but it’s how we’ve always done things. If you’re ever near Reay Road, you can just stop by and see us. The lane outside is always narrow and crowded with trucks loading and unloading, so you have to be careful when you walk. It’s a real working-class neighborhood here.
