We are located at Gala No 3 in the G Shed area, specifically 371-373 on Abdul Byculla. If you know this part of the city, you know it is always humming with people moving things around. Fair Home Furniture is basically a workshop where things actually get made. You won't find a shiny floor or air conditioning here. Instead, there is sawdust on the ground and the smell of polish and wood glue. We spend most of our time measuring planks and cutting them to size. It gets pretty loud with the saws running, so we have to shout sometimes to hear each other. When someone walks in looking for a cupboard or a bed frame, they usually have to step over a few pieces of timber to get to us. We just show them what we are working on right then. It is honest work and my hands are usually covered in some kind of stain by the end of the day. The shed gets a bit cramped when we have a lot of big orders, but we manage by stacking things carefully. Moving the finished furniture out of the gala and onto a tempo is always a bit of a struggle because the lanes are so narrow. We do it every day though. It’s just how it is in Byculla. People come to us because they want something sturdy that doesn't cost as much as the big stores charge.
