Exim Trade Links is right here in the Sethna Building, at number 611 on the ground floor of Girgaum Road. Being on the ground floor means we see a lot of the street life in this part of Mumbai, which is always busy. The building itself has that old character you only find in this part of town, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep things a little cooler than the humid air outside. We spend most of our time dealing with shipping documents and talking to people on the docks. It’s a lot of back-and-forth work, making sure the links between the suppliers and the buyers stay solid. Our desks are usually covered in files, and there’s always a faint smell of old paper and the chai that the boy brings from the corner stall twice a day. It’s a bit cramped inside because we’ve got so many records from over the years, but we know where everything is. The noise from Girgaum Road never really stops, so we’ve learned to talk over the honking and the crowds. It’s not a fancy office with glass walls, just a solid place where we do our daily trade work. We focus on the details of the exports and imports, checking the numbers and making sure the containers are where they should be. It is just how we operate, day in and day out, in the heart of the city without any fuss.
