Designo Furniture Studio

Our workshop is over in Bhandup, right in the J B Super Market. It’s right across from Natraj Tower, which is a big landmark people usually look for when they’re trying to find us. Being near the container yard means there’s always a lot of heavy trucks moving around and plenty of noise, but you get used to it after a week or two. At Designo Furniture Studio, there is usually wood dust everywhere, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. We spend most of the day measuring things and cutting wood for whatever project we have on the bench. It’s a bit cramped in here with all the tools and the half-finished chairs and tables, but we know where everything is. Sometimes the smell of varnish gets a bit strong, so we have to step out for a breather. The market is always busy, and there’s a guy selling snacks right outside who we see almost every afternoon. We don’t have a fancy showroom with lights and carpets. It’s just a place where things get built. People come in with sketches on pieces of paper, and we try to figure out how to make it work. It’s hard work on your back and hands, but it’s what we know how to do. We usually stay late if a delivery is due the next morning. It’s just how things are in a workshop like this.
