Designer Plastics

Designer Plastics is located down in the RAMJI PATEL COMPD in Malad East. We are in unit number 2. The compound is NEAR GUJRA, and it’s a very industrial sort of place. There are always trucks coming in and out, and the ground is usually covered in some kind of dust or scrap. We work with different types of plastics here. We have a few machines that run most of the day. They make a lot of noise, so we have to talk loudly to hear each other over the humming. It’s a hands-on job. We spend our time checking the molds and making sure the plastic is setting right. Our clothes usually have a bit of grime on them by the end of the shift. Malad East is a busy part of Mumbai to work in. The compound itself has been our base for a long time. We don't have a showroom or a fancy entrance. It’s just a big workshop with stacks of materials piled up against the walls. We do things the old-fashioned way, mostly by hand and with simple machinery. If there’s a problem with a machine, we usually try to fix it ourselves before calling anyone else. It’s a small team of us. We eat our lunch together in a small corner of the shop where it’s a bit quieter. It’s a basic life, but we like the work. We just make sure the plastic parts are ready on time for whoever ordered them. It is what we do here every day.
