If you walk down Dahisar Dockyard Road and look for number 110, that is where we are. It is mostly a place filled with the smell of cut wood and a lot of sawdust on the ground. We have been making tables, chairs, and cupboards here for a long time. It is a hands-on job and my clothes are usually covered in some kind of polish or glue by lunchtime. The workshop isn’t the cleanest place because there is always something being sanded or painted. We don’t have a big fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of the stuff we make just sits in the corner until the customer comes to pick it up in a rickshaw or a small truck. Sometimes the wood doesn't behave like you want it to, or a hinge is slightly off, so you have to start over. That is the frustrating part of working with your hands. The traffic on Dockyard Road can be a nightmare in the evenings, but we just stay inside and finish the polishing. It is hard work and my back usually aches by the time I go home. We don't use big fancy machines for everything, a lot of it is just saws and hammers. It is just a local business trying to make things that don't fall apart after a month. We see the same people every day and that is fine by us. It's just a regular workshop.
