Our office is located at 55/57 Nagdevi Nagdevi Cross Lane, inside the Kamala Niwas building on the first floor. If you’ve ever walked through Nagdevi, you know how crowded and loud the lanes can get with all the hardware and tools being moved around on handcarts. Chunilal Prabhu Das & Co Pvt Ltd has been part of this neighborhood for a long time. The stairs leading up to our floor are a bit narrow and steep, so you have to watch your step. Inside, it’s mostly just desks piled with papers, old files, and a few landline phones that seem to ring at the most inconvenient times. We aren't a big corporate firm with glass walls; we just have a simple space where we keep track of our business and talk to the people who come by. The ceiling is high, which helps a bit with the humidity, but the old wooden furniture has seen better days. We spend our mornings going through the mail and our afternoons dealing with whatever needs to be sorted out for the day. Sometimes the light in the hallway flickers, and the sounds from the street never really stop until late at night. It is a practical place for practical work. We know most of the other shopkeepers around Kamala Niwas, and there is a sense of being in a community that’s been doing the same thing for decades. It is not always easy, but we make it work.
