Our workshop is tucked away in Malad West on Sant Tukaram Road, specifically at R-8. If you’ve ever walked down this street, you know it’s filled with small businesses and people working hard. At Carve Dies, the air usually smells a bit like metal and oil. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, but it’s what we’ve been doing for years. We spend most of our time hunched over machines, making sure the shapes are right. My father started this work, and now a few of us keep it going. It’s loud in here during the day, so we usually have to shout to hear each other over the grinding. We don't have a big reception area or a secretary. Usually, you just walk in and find one of us with grease on our hands. We try to keep the place organized, but tools have a way of wandering off when you’re busy. Customers come by with drawings or old parts they need copied. We sit down, have some water, and talk about what needs doing. It’s practical work. No one wears a suit here. We’re just regular folks in Malad trying to get the job done right so the customer can get back to their own work. The rain sometimes leaks a bit near the back door when it’s heavy, but we just put a bucket there and keep moving. It is just a part of the daily routine for us.
