Cannons

Cannons is located at 273 Masjid Sundernagar Main Road. If you’re familiar with the area near Nagdevi Street, you’ll know it’s one of the busiest parts of the city. The streets are narrow and there’s always someone pushing a cart or carrying a heavy load on their head. Our shop isn't very large. We have shelves reaching up to the ceiling, packed with all sorts of items. It’s a bit of a maze inside, and sometimes even we have to hunt around for a minute to find what we’re looking for. The air smells like old metal and cardboard. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find air conditioning or soft carpets. We have a small desk near the front where we handle the cash and talk to people. Most of our day is spent greeting regulars who have been coming to this part of Masjid for decades. Nagdevi Street is famous for hardware, so there’s a lot of competition, but we just focus on our own corner. It gets very loud outside with the honking and the shouting, but once you’re inside Cannons, it feels a bit more contained. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the other shopkeepers on the block. We don’t try to be anything we aren’t. We just open the shutters in the morning and stay until the sun goes down and it's time to head home.
