Bombay Burmah Hardware Store

If you come down to Masjid Bunder West, you’ll find us. We are Bombay Burmah Hardware Store. The shop is number 128 in the Laxmi Building. It's a very old area of Mumbai. The streets are narrow and always full of people carrying boxes or handcarts. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of hardware. We’ve got tools, nuts, bolts, and things people need for repairs. It’s dusty work. Sometimes we can’t find things right away because there is so much stock, but we eventually dig it out. We’ve been here for years. My father used to be here, and now I am here most days. It gets very loud outside with the horns and the shouting. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just walk in or call us. We write down the orders in big ledger books. The building is old and the walls are thick. We drink a lot of tea while waiting for customers. It's a simple life. We close up when the sun goes down. Most of our customers are locals or contractors who have been buying from us since forever. We don't do much talking, just sell what is needed. It’s a small shop but it’s our life. We keep the inventory moving and try to stay organized, even if it looks messy to an outsider.
