You can find our workshop at 274 Bunder Road, inside the Bashabhai Compound. It is right on Samrala Road and sits directly opposite the Jama Masjid, so the sound of the prayers is a regular part of our day. The compound is usually full of wood scraps and the smell of sawdust and varnish. We spend our time cutting, sanding, and putting together different pieces of furniture. It is hands-on work, and our clothes usually end up covered in dust by the time evening rolls around. The space isn’t very organized in a corporate way; it’s more about where the tools and the wood fit best at any given moment. We work on a mix of things, from simple chairs to more detailed interior pieces that people in the neighborhood ask for. Samrala Road is quite busy, so there is always a lot of traffic passing by the entrance to the compound. We’ve been at this location for quite some time now, and we have gotten to know the other folks working in the nearby shops pretty well. It’s the kind of place where neighbors stop by to ask for a quick fix or to see what we are currently building. We don’t go for anything flashy; we just focus on the wood and making sure the joints are tight. It is just a local workshop trying to do decent work for the people who live around Bunder Road.
