Bharat Cottage Industry

Bharat Cottage Industry has been sitting on Narayan Dhuru Street in Goregaon East for quite some time now. It is a busy little spot where we handle all kinds of small-scale production stuff. You won’t find anything high-tech here, just some basic machines and a few workbenches that have seen better days. The street outside is always jammed with people and rickshaws, so it’s never really quiet inside the shop. We usually have piles of raw materials sitting near the doorway waiting to be sorted out. Some days we are really busy finishing up an order, and other days we are just sitting around fixing the equipment or cleaning up the scraps from the floor. The walls are painted a dull color that has faded over the years, and there are posters from old local festivals pinned up near the light switches. It feels like a real workshop because it is one, with all the smells of glue and wood and metal hanging in the air. We don't really have a sales team or anything like that; people just know where we are and they come by when they need something made. The fans overhead wobble a bit when they are on high, but they keep the air moving during those long afternoons when the humidity gets really heavy in Goregaon.
