Ba Brothers

Our place is on the second floor of a building at 252 Masjid. To get here you have to walk up some fairly steep stairs. That is just how it is in this part of the city. Masjid is always packed with people and carts. There is a lot of shouting and noise from the market below. We have been operating from this floor for a long time. The office is quite old and has high ceilings. We don't have a big staff. Just a few of us who have been together for years. We handle different kinds of trade and wholesale business. Most of our work involves talking to people on the phone. Or meeting traders who come up to see the samples. It’s a bit of a maze in this building with all the different rooms and hallways. We usually have the windows open. But the air is always thick with the smell of spices and the city. There are papers stacked on every desk. We use old wooden cupboards to keep our records. It’s not the kind of place where you find modern furniture or computers at every corner. We like the way things are because it works for us. In the afternoons we share some snacks and tea while we finish the day's accounts. It’s a traditional way of doing business in a very crowded area. Getting goods up the stairs is a task. But we are used to it.
