Audio Star

Audio Star sits in Goregaon West, right in the Overkhadi 1 area. If you come by, you’ll see it’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside. We have speakers and old amplifiers stacked up against the walls, and there are always wires tangled on the floor. It’s the kind of shop where you have to watch where you step. We spend a lot of time with a soldering iron in hand, trying to fix connections or cleaning out dust from old electronics. The shop doesn't look like much from the outside, just a door and some old equipment in the window. The street outside is loud with traffic and people yelling, so when we test a sound system, we really have to crank it up to hear anything. It gets hot in the afternoons because the fan doesn't do much against the heat of all the machines running. We aren't big on filing systems, so finding a specific spare part sometimes takes us a good ten minutes of digging through drawers. People bring in their broken gear and we see what we can do. Some things are too far gone, but we try anyway. It’s mostly just us surrounded by black boxes and copper wire. We’ve been in Goregaon for a while now and most people know us as the place that’s always a bit of a mess but gets the job done. We just keep working through the pile of repairs that grows every week.
