Our office is on the first floor over in Fort Lokhandwala, tucked away in room 19. It is a busy building with lots of stairs and people constantly moving boxes and rolls of material around. We work with leather mostly. You can smell the hides the moment you step off the stairs on our floor. It is a strong, heavy scent, but you get used to it after working here for a week or two. We have a few heavy-duty sewing machines and a couple of guys who really know how to handle the thick material. Bahu Ba is always packed with traffic and people, so we usually just stay inside and focus on whatever pile of skins needs cutting that day. It is definitely not a showroom with bright lights and glass cases. It is more of a dusty workspace where tools are scattered across the long wooden benches. Sometimes we lose a needle or a specific thread color and have to spend ten minutes digging through the cluttered drawers. We make bags and some smaller leather items when orders come in. The light is not very good in the back corner, so we use some old metal desk lamps to see our work. Most of our day is spent measuring things out and marking them with white chalk. We do not really do any big advertisements. People just know we are here in the Lokhandwala area. It gets hot in the afternoons.
