Arogya Laxmi Ayushadi Bhandar

We set up our shop at number 4 on Y T Road in Dahisar. It’s directly across from the Soni Diamond Building, which is how most people find us. It’s a small place, really just one room filled with as many shelves as we could fit. We have jars and packets of all sorts of herbs and traditional powders. I’ve been working here for a long time now, and I’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. The street outside is always full of people going to the station or coming back from the market. We keep the doors open all day, so a lot of dust comes in, and I spend a good amount of time dusting off the inventory. It’s just me and sometimes my nephew helping out when it gets busy. We don't have a big computer system; I still write everything down in a big ledger book. Sometimes we run out of something and I have to tell people to come back next week when the new stock arrives. It isn't a perfect system, but it’s how we’ve always done it. We don't try to push anything on anyone. If someone comes in with a cough, we just show them what we have on the shelf. It’s a humble little bhandar and we are happy just being a part of the daily life on Y T Road.
