We are over in Chembur, tucked away near Neelkanth Apartment. The shop is at number 6. It’s mostly wood shavings and the smell of varnish around here. Anand Art Furniture isn't a showroom where everything is shiny and perfect. It’s more of a workshop. We spend our days measuring stuff, cutting wood, and trying to get the joints to fit right. My hands are usually covered in dust by noon. Chembur is a nice place to work, though it gets crowded. We’ve been at this location for some time now. People walk by and peek in to see what we’re building. Sometimes we’re working on a big wardrobe, other times it’s just a small chair. We don't have a big sales team or anything like that. It’s just us and our tools. If the door is open, we’re probably inside working. The light in the back of the shop isn't great, so we do most of the finishing work near the front where the sun hits. It’s a simple setup. We have an old radio that plays most of the day. It helps the time go by when we’re sanding down a large piece of timber. Neighbors from Neelkanth Apartment often stop by for a chat or to ask if we can fix a broken leg on a table. We do what we can. It’s a steady life, working with our hands every day. The neighbors are used to the sound of our saws by now. Sometimes the shop gets a bit cluttered with scraps, but that's just part of the process. We don't mind the mess as long as the pieces turn out okay.
