I’ve been working in the Versova Furniture Market in Jogeshwari West for quite some time. My name is Ahmed Khan, and this market is pretty much where I spend all my daylight hours. If you’ve ever been to this part of Jogeshwari, you know it’s famous for wood and furniture. There are piles of timber everywhere and the sound of saws is something you hear from morning until night. My space is right in the middle of it all. It’s not a showroom with air conditioning and soft lights; it’s a workshop filled with sawdust and the smell of polish. I usually have a couple of guys working with me, carving or sanding down pieces of wood to make chairs or tables. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule, we just work until the job is done. Sometimes a customer comes in with a sketch on a piece of paper, and we talk about how to make it. There’s a lot of back and forth, and maybe some tea while we figure it out. The market is always crowded with trucks loading up finished goods to be sent all over the city. It’s a messy, loud, and busy place, but I wouldn't know what to do with myself in a quiet office. This is where I learned the trade and it’s where I plan to stay. We just take things one day at a time here. It's a lot of sawdust but we like it. We are always here.
