Abhay Bakelites

You’ll find Abhay Bakelites over in Malad West, specifically at Shailesh Nagar, number 17. It’s a bit of a trek to get here if the traffic is bad, but once you’re in the area, it’s mostly just residential and small workshops. We work with bakelite, which means there is often a bit of a specific smell in the air from the materials we use. Our place isn't very large, just enough room for the machinery and the raw materials we need to keep things running. It’s a bit dark inside because we don't have many big windows, but we have enough lights to see what we are doing. We mostly just keep our heads down and work through the orders. Sometimes the machines get a bit hot, so we have to take breaks to let everything cool down. We’ve got a small table where we keep the water bottles and a calendar that’s a couple of months behind. It’s not a fancy office by any means, just a practical space where we can get the job done without too much fuss. We know the neighbors around Shailesh Nagar and we usually chat for a minute when we are opening up the shutters in the morning. It’s a quiet life in some ways, just keeping the production going day after day in this small corner of Malad.
