About Abdul Karim Ahmed Furnishers – Furniture in Mumbai
We’re over at Ahmed Palace in Juhu West, number 254. Abdul Karim Ahmed Furnishers has been around for quite some time, dealing with all sorts of woodwork and home stuff. Juhu is a nice place to work, even if the traffic can be a nightmare on the weekends. Our space is usually filled with the smell of sawdust and varnish. We do furniture the old-fashioned way, mostly. It’s about picking the right wood and spending the time to get the joints right. We don't have a big fancy showroom with bright lights. People usually just come by the workshop to see what we’re currently building or to talk about a piece they want made. The family has been doing this for a while, so there’s a lot of history in these walls. We have our regulars who come back every time they move house or want to fix up a room. It’s a lot of physical labor, moving heavy planks and sanding things down until they're smooth. We aren't interested in mass-produced stuff that breaks in a year. We just build things that are solid and meant to be used. If you stop by, you'll probably find us covered in a bit of dust, but that’s just part of the job. It’s a good, honest way to make a living and we take pride in the wood.
