Our place is in Lakri Walaan, right on Peer Gali in the Mughalpura 1 district. The name of the area tells you what goes on here—lots of wood and lots of shavings. We work out of a small space that always smells like fresh sawdust and varnish. There are piles of wood tucked into every corner, some of it waiting to be cut and some of it just scraps we haven’t thrown away yet. The floor is never really clean, no matter how much we sweep. Peer Gali is a tight little street, and we know everyone who lives on it. We make different things by hand, using tools that have seen better days but still get the job done. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find fancy displays. We just have our benches and the projects we’re currently working on. Sometimes the neighbors bring over food, and we sit on the steps to eat while the glue dries. Mughalpura is a busy, working-class neighborhood, and we fit right in with the noise and the mess. We don't do much in the way of marketing; the work just speaks for itself when people see it. Most of our days are spent measuring, cutting, and sanding until our arms ache. It’s simple, honest work that keeps us busy from sunrise until the lamps go on in the street outside and it is time to go home.
