About Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School – Education in Meerut
Our place is at 227 Westend Road. If you know the area, you know how busy this road can get at certain times of the day. The school building is right there on the main stretch, so we hear the city moving all day long. It’s an older building with high walls and a big metal gate that clanks when you close it. Inside, things are a bit quieter, but not much. We have rows of classrooms that are always filled with the sound of shuffling feet and papers. The corridors are narrow and have that smell of old wax and books. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations on the walls, just some student work and the odd calendar. Our staff room is where we sit and go over our notes during the breaks. The chairs are a bit squeaky and the table is covered in stacks of paper. We have a routine that hasn't changed much in years. We show up, open the gates, and get to work. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit and we just open the windows wider. It’s a very straightforward way of living. We don't spend much time worrying about how things look as long as they work. The bells are loud so everyone knows when to move. By the time evening comes, Westend Road is packed with traffic again, and we head home like everyone else. It’s just another day at 227 for us.
