You can find us at Plot No 10 in Fatehpur Tal Narza. It’s out in the Mau area, near Azamgarh. We go by Awadh Kamlawati Fish India Producercompany Limited. It sounds like a long name but we are just a small group. Sahani Manjuben is the one who helps keep us organized here. Dealing with fish means early mornings and a lot of water. It’s not a clean job and you definitely don’t wear your best clothes to work. The air smells like the water and the fish, which is something you just stop noticing after a few days. We don't have any fancy equipment or big cooling systems like the giant companies do. We just use what we have and do our best with it. Sometimes the road to the plot gets muddy when it rains, making it hard for the trucks. We just deal with it as it comes. There isn't a big plan or a corporate strategy. We just want to make sure the fish are healthy and that we can sell them for a fair price. It’s a lot of waiting and watching. My hands are usually wet or covered in scales. It’s a basic life but it’s what we know how to do. We aren't looking to change the world, just to provide for our families and keep the operations running smoothly at our small plot in Uttar Pradesh.
