Sulabha Vegetables Farmers Producer Company Limited is a bit of a mouthful, but we just call ourselves Sulabha. We are over at the Madathil Complex in Edayur North. It’s at 13/224(D), near the Vayanashala. We are basically a group of farmers who decided to work together. It’s much easier to handle the vegetables when we share the load. Everyone brings what they’ve grown, and we figure out how to get it to the markets. Some days we have more tomatoes than we know what to do with, and other days the greens are scarce. That’s just the way it goes with farming. We don’t have any marketing experts here. We just know how to grow things and how to talk to each other. The office in the complex is where we meet to settle the accounts and plan the next planting cycle. It’s often loud with everyone talking at once, but we get things settled eventually. Edayur is a good place for this kind of thing because people still care about where their food comes from. We aren't looking to become some giant company. We just want to make sure the local farmers get a fair shake and the vegetables don’t go to waste. It’s a lot of physical work and early mornings. Sometimes the rain ruins a crop, and we just have to start over. That’s life on the farm, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
