Sri Thirumalai Industries

Sri Thirumalai Industries is situated at 152 A, South Car Street. Being in Thirupparankundram means we are always surrounded by the sounds of the temple and the many people visiting it. Our workshop is an old building that has been in the family for quite a long time. The wooden doors are thick and heavy. We spend our days working on whatever the current project is. Sometimes the street gets so jammed with devotees that our delivery trucks have to wait at the end of the block for hours. We don't mind much; we just use that time to prep the next batch of work. There are about four of us here on a regular day. We wear old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. The light inside isn't great, so we keep the big doors open to let the sun in. You can hear the temple bells ringing while we work, which is nice. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning or soft chairs. We just have a few fans that move the hot air around. Customers usually know us by name. They come in and sit on the wooden bench while we discuss what they need. We write everything down on pads of paper. It’s not a modern way to run a business, but it works for us and our neighbors. We just keep doing what we know how to do every morning.
