Arumugam Evening Mutton Stall

When the sun starts to go down in Madurai, things get busy at Arumugam Evening Mutton Stall. We are right there on Madurai East Street in Tallakulam. The street lights come on and the local crowd starts showing up. It is an evening business, so our day really starts in the afternoon when we get the meat ready. We spend a lot of time preparing everything so it’s ready for the grill or the pot. The area around Kamala Nagar Tallakulam has a lot of energy once the workday ends. You can hear the sound of the knives and the chatter of people waiting for their turns. We don't have a lot of space, but we make it work. It’s mostly about the meat and the fire here. We see the same faces every week, people who live nearby or work in the local shops. The air gets thick with the smell of cooking, which you can probably notice from down the block. We stay open until the last of the crowd thins out. It’s a simple setup at No 5 A, nothing too fancy to look at. We just focus on the mutton and making sure it is handled right. By the time we close up, the streets are finally quiet. It’s a long night of work, but that is how it has always been for us.
