Sri Senthil Rice Mill

Sri Senthil Rice Mill is down on Goundachi Pudur Road, specifically at 68/2. If you’ve ever walked past Ellis Nagar Post, you probably know the area. It’s usually pretty loud around here because of the machines running, but you get used to the hum after a while. We spend most of our days covered in a bit of dust from the husks, which is just part of the job when you’re milling rice. The building is older, but it does what it’s supposed to do. Farmers bring in their loads, and we get to work. Sometimes the equipment acts up and we have to spend half the morning fixing a belt or cleaning out a jam, which can be frustrating. It’s not a clean office job, that’s for sure. My hands are always rough from handling the heavy sacks, but it feels good to see the finished product stacked up and ready to go. We have a small space out front where people come to talk and settle their accounts. It gets pretty crowded during the harvest season when everyone is in a hurry. We just try to keep the line moving and the quality steady. It’s a lot of long hours, especially when the power goes out and we have to catch up later, but we’ve been at it for years. We just take it one bag at a time and try to keep the machinery in working order so we don't fall behind.
