Sukhdev Singh Die Maker

My workshop, Sukhdev Singh Die Maker, is located at 2882 New Janta Nagar. We are on Street No 10, which is just a short walk from Ati College. It’s a working-class neighborhood, and you’ll hear the sounds of different shops all through the day. Making dies is precision work, but the environment is pretty grit-and-grime. I’ve got grease under my fingernails most of the time, and the floor is covered in metal shavings. The machines I use are old but they still do the job if you treat them right. I don't have a secretary or a fancy sign; people just know to come to Street No 10 when they need a die made for their press. It’s a one-room operation for the most part, with tools hanging on the walls and a heavy workbench that’s seen a lot of use. Sometimes the students from the college walk by and look in, but mostly it’s just me and the metal. The work requires a lot of patience because if you mess up a measurement, the whole piece is junk. I spend a lot of time with a file in my hand, smoothing out the edges. It’s quiet work in a noisy street. I’ve lived and worked in this part of Janta Nagar for a long time, so the neighbors are all friends. We just do the work as it comes in and don't make a fuss.
