Siya Estates

Our place, Siya Estates, is situated right on Chandigarh Road, not too far from the Anshupati Textile mill. That factory is a good landmark because everyone around here knows it. Being on the main road means there is always a lot of dust and noise from the trucks going past, but it’s a good spot for people to find us. We have a small office where we keep all our property records and files. It’s nothing special to look at, just a regular workplace with some old furniture and a water cooler in the corner. We spend most of our mornings drinking tea and catching up on what land is being sold nearby. People from the textile mill or other nearby businesses often stop in just to say hello or ask about the prices of plots in the area. We take them out in the jeep to show them different sites, which can be a long process when the traffic is bad. It’s a simple life, really, just dealing with land and buildings all day long. We don’t use any fancy systems, just our notebooks and a lot of talking. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the porch until it comes back on. It’s just how things are on Chandigarh Road, and we’ve gotten pretty used to the rhythm of it over the years. We close up around six or seven and head home, ready to do the same thing tomorrow morning when the trucks start rolling past again.
