Shiv Shankar Hardware Corporation

The Shiv Shankar Hardware Corporation shop is over in Prem Nagar, specifically in the B-Xiv section of Islam Ganj. This area has a lot of history and it feels like a proper old-school market neighborhood. We have rows and rows of shelves filled with all kinds of hardware supplies. There are bins for screws, racks for tools, and stacks of heavier items near the back wall. It is a bit of a maze if you don't know your way around the aisles. We spend a lot of time counting stock and helping people find that one specific bolt they need for a job. The air usually smells like metal and old cardboard boxes. We don't have air conditioning, so we rely on a few ceiling fans to keep the air moving during the summer. It gets dusty, but that is expected in a hardware store. We have a wooden counter where we do all the transactions and write out receipts. Most of the people who come in are locals or workers from nearby sites who need something quickly to finish their work. We like the rhythm of the day here. Sometimes it is very quiet and we just organize the inventory, and other times it is so busy we can barely keep up with everyone. We don't have any corporate slogans or anything like that. We just open the doors in the morning and wait for the first customer to walk in. It is a basic business run by people who know their products.
