Sant Cycle

Sant Cycle is over at Bhagwan Chowk, specifically Street No 8 in Janata Nagar. If you look for house number 10188, that is where we are located. The shop is full of rubber tires and metal frames leaning against the walls. There is always the smell of grease and oil in the air which we don't even notice anymore. We spend the day pumping up tires and tightening bolts on bicycles that have seen better days. Many workers from the nearby factories bring their cycles here because they use them every day to get to their jobs. We have tools scattered across the old workbench and sometimes it takes a minute to find the right wrench in the pile. It is a messy job and our hands are usually black with grime by noon. We have some new cycles for sale but mostly we are just repairing what people already have. The street is narrow so we often work on the cycles right out on the pavement if the shop gets too crowded with parts. Kids come by to get their flat tires fixed after school is over. It’s a simple life and we don't try to make it look like anything it isn't. We have a small radio that plays music in the background while we work. When the sun goes down, we pack everything inside and lock the heavy metal shutters tight for the night.
