Padmani Lathes

Down in Ludhiana, at 3740 Shimla Puri near Daba Chowk on Gill Road, you’ll find Padmani Lathes. This part of town is pretty packed with workshops and small factories. We’ve been here in this spot for a long time, working on lathes and other machinery. The shop is usually full of the sound of metal being turned and the smell of cutting fluid. It’s a bit dark inside sometimes, and there’s definitely a lot of grease around, but that’s just how a lathe shop is. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles. We have our old machines and our tools, and that’s about it. Most of our customers are other local workshops who need their equipment repaired or are looking for a reliable machine. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in Punjab. We just want to do a decent job so we can keep the lights on. Sometimes we have to work late when a big order comes in, and other times it’s quiet enough to just sit and have a chat. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves. We are just a group of guys who know how to work with metal. The traffic around Gill Road can be a nightmare, but we’re used to it by now. It’s just home for us. We just keep our heads down, focus on the lathe work, and try to get the parts finished on time.
