We are right on G.T. Road in the Sherpur area. If you find the Hero Cycles factory, we are just opposite that. It is a very noisy area because of all the trucks and the industrial work going on at all hours. The workshop is where we spend almost all of our time. There is always the sound of metal hitting metal or someone welding something in the back of the shed. Our clothes usually have a bit of dust or grease on them by the time the shift ends. We do not have a fancy reception area or a place for people to sit. If someone comes by, they usually just walk right onto the shop floor and find one of us. We do a lot of heavy lifting and measuring throughout the day. The floor is made of hard concrete and it stays very cold in the winter months. We have got all our tools hanging on the walls where they have been for years. My brother and I manage the orders that come in from the local builders. It is straightforward work, and there is nothing fancy about it. We just take the steel and turn it into whatever is needed for the project. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that is just how things are in Ludhiana. We keep the ledger on a small, scarred desk in the corner. It gets very hot in the summer.
