H. L. Chopra Steel Rolling Mills

H. L. Chopra Steel Rolling Mills is based out on Bhadla Road in the village of Alour. It is quite a way out from the city, so it’s mostly just us and the fields around here. The mill is a big, industrial space where things are constantly moving. It gets incredibly hot, especially during the summer months, because of the furnaces and the hot metal we handle. We’ve been rolling steel here for a long time, and the building shows its age a bit, but the machinery is solid. Most of the workers live nearby in the village, so we all know each other well. It’s physical work, and you definitely go home tired and covered in soot. We produce steel rods and sections that mostly go into construction projects. There isn’t much of an office to speak of, just a small room with a desk and some old ledgers where we keep track of the loads going out. Trucks rumble in and out of the yard all day long, kicking up a lot of dust. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people usually just know us through the trade or because they’ve seen the mill on their way through Alour. It’s a tough environment, but there is a certain rhythm to the work that you get used to. We just focus on getting the orders filled and keeping the machines maintained. It is honest, heavy work.
