New Life Machinery Works

New Life Machinery Works is over in Shimlapuri, right near the Sabzi Mandi. Being that close to the vegetable market means the whole area is buzzing very early in the morning. You can hear the vendors shouting and the carts rolling by while we are just opening up the metal shutters. The workshop is usually filled with the sound of grinding and metal work. We take in a lot of old machines that need fixing up or parts that need to be made from scratch for local factories. It’s not a clean job. There are oil stains on the floor that have probably been there longer than I have been working. The space isn't very big, so we have to be careful where we step when there are multiple jobs going on at once. Most of our tools are old but they still work just fine for what we need to get done. People from the neighborhood often stop by just to chat or ask for a quick fix on something they brought from their own shop or home. We don’t have a receptionist or a waiting room, so if you come by, you’ll probably find us hunched over a machine or looking for a wrench in a cluttered toolbox. The air is always a bit heavy with the smell of metal and exhaust from the market trucks. It’s a busy, gritty spot, but we like being right in the middle of all the noise.
