Dhc International Gem Lab & Institute

You’ll find us on the third floor of the First Mall Complex on Mall Road. We’re in Unit Number 8, right above the Hdfc Bank. It’s a busy building, but once you get up to our floor, things quiet down a bit. Dhc International Gem Lab & Institute is where we spend our days looking at stones through microscopes. It’s a lot of squinting and checking for tiny flaws that most people wouldn't even notice. We don't sell jewelry here; we just tell you what the stones actually are. It’s a lot of technical work. We have these little scales and lamps that we use all day long. Sometimes people bring in stuff they found or something they bought and want to be sure about. We aren't here to give a sales pitch. We just look at the light and the facets and write down what we see. The office is pretty bright because we need the light to see clearly. It’s not a big fancy institute like you might see in a movie. It’s just a workspace with some specialized tools and a few people who’ve spent years learning how to identify different gems. We get a lot of noise from the street downstairs, but we’ve gotten used to it. We just keep our heads down and focus on the work at the benches. It’s a very specific kind of job, and we’ve been doing it here on Mall Road for quite a while now.
