Lyallpur Sweets

Our shop is situated over on the Manju Cinema Main Road in Model Town, right by Mintgurnri Chowk. It is a very busy spot and there is always something going on outside our doors. We spend most of our time in the back working with milk and sugar to get the sweets ready for the day. It gets hot back there, especially in the summer months when the stoves are going non-stop. People come in from the street, sometimes after a movie or just while they are passing through the chowk. We have glass counters filled with different things we make. It is a family thing, mostly. We don't have a lot of space for people to sit down, so most just take their boxes and head out into the Model Town traffic. Every morning starts early with the milk delivery. If we don't start at five, we are behind for the whole day. The floor gets a bit sticky, but we try to keep up with the cleaning. It’s a lot of work handling the festival rushes when everyone wants the same thing at the same time. You get used to the noise of the cars and the rickshaws outside. We have been in this spot for a long time, so people know where to find us near the old cinema. We just keep making the batches and selling them until the trays are empty. That's how it goes here.
