Darshan Namkeen House

Darshan Namkeen House is situated right opposite the old telephone exchange, over in the Billan Walli Chappri area. It is a spot that most locals know well. The building itself has seen better days, but it is sturdy enough for what we do. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of the snacks. We spend a lot of time by the big vats, making sure the namkeen is just right. It is a hot job, especially in the summer, but we are used to it. The shelves are usually packed with bags of different mixes, though they empty out pretty quickly on the weekends. We have a couple of old wooden benches where people sometimes sit and wait while we pack their orders. The floor is stained from years of work, no matter how much we scrub it. It is just the nature of the business. We don't have a big marketing team or anything; most people find out about us because they live nearby or their parents used to shop here. The old telephone exchange across the street is a good landmark for people who are not from around here. We open early in the morning to get a head start on the day's frying and we stay open until the sun goes down. It is just a regular family-run feel where we know most of the faces that walk through the door.
