Krishan Sweet Shop

Krishan Sweet Shop is located in the Old Sabzi Mandi area of Ludhiana Central. It’s a very busy part of town, especially in the early hours of the morning when the vegetable sellers are all setting up. We have to start our day way before the sun comes up to get the milk boiling and the dough ready. We specialize in the traditional stuff like jalebis, samosas, and various milk sweets. The shop isn't big and the walls are a bit dark from years of smoke from the large frying pans. It’s a hot and sweaty job, especially during the summer months when the heat from the stoves is intense. We don't have any fancy seating areas or waiters. People just stand around the counter or take their sweets wrapped in old newspapers or simple boxes. We use the same recipes that have been in the family for a long time. We don't believe in using machines for everything; we still do most of it by hand because that’s how we learned. The floor is often a bit sticky from the syrup, but that’s just part of the environment here. By the afternoon, the market starts to quiet down and we usually run out of our best items. We just clean up and get ready to do it all over again the next day. It’s a tiring life but it’s a good one and people seem to like what we make.
