Khushi Ram & Sons

Our shop, Khushi Ram & Sons, is right on Chaura Bazar Main Road. If you know Ludhiana, you know how crowded and loud this market can get. We have been in this same spot for years, watching the rickshaws and people go by. The shop is small and the walls have a few marks on them, but it is where we work every day. We start our mornings early, getting the fryers going for the snacks and the syrup ready for the sweets. It is a family business, so it is usually me or one of my sons behind the counter. We don't have air conditioning that works all the time, just the old fans on the ceiling that hum while they spin. We don't try to do anything too fancy. We just make the same things our father and grandfather made. Sometimes we run out of things by the afternoon if it has been a busy day. We don't have a website or a big sign. People just know where we are. We use the old metal scales for weighing out the orders. The noise from the street is always there, but we are used to it by now. It is a busy life here in the bazar. We do not spend money on advertising because we would rather just focus on the cooking. It is a plain and simple way to run a business and we like it that way.
