Khushi Ram & Sons Sweet Shop

My father started Khushi Ram & Sons Sweet Shop a long time ago on Firozpur Road. Most days we are just busy with the milk delivery arriving early. It's a lot of work getting the heat right under the big pans. We spend hours stirring because if you stop for a minute, the bottom burns and the whole batch is ruined. People know us for being right here near the main road. The shop isn't fancy. There are some old chairs and a counter that has seen better days. My sons help out now because there is too much for one person. We make the usual stuff like barfi and jalebis. When the festival season comes, we barely sleep. Sometimes we run out of boxes and have to scramble. It is just a regular life here. The noise from the traffic outside never really stops. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their first name. They usually want the same thing every Friday. We just keep doing what we do. The floors get sticky by noon and we have to mop them three times. It’s hard work, but it keeps the family together. We don’t have a big website or anything like that. If you want something, you just come to Firozpur Road and look for the sign. We’ll be there in the back probably. It is just a simple way to live.
