K. L Ashoka Hosiery

We are tucked away in Street Number 1 in Guru Nanak Dev Nagar, over in Basti Jodhewal. K. L Ashoka Hosiery is a busy little spot full of sewing machines and stacks of fabric. The noise of the needles hitting the cloth is like a constant heartbeat in the room. We work with all sorts of threads and textiles, trying to put together garments that are comfortable and hold up well. It is a bit cramped in here because we have so much material stored on every available shelf. Sometimes it feels like we are tripping over rolls of cotton. The light isn't always the best, so we have to have extra lamps at the workstations. Basti Jodhewal is a hub for this kind of work, so there is always someone nearby who can fix a machine or supply a specific type of yarn. We have a few people who have been sewing with us for a long time, and they can do it almost with their eyes shut. We don't make anything high-fashion, just regular clothes for regular people. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we take pride in getting the stitching straight. By the time we lock up at night, we’re usually pretty exhausted, but that’s just life in the hosiery business. We try to keep the orders moving so nothing sits for too long.
