J B D Turbo Centre is tucked away in Hanumanth Nagar, Ludhiana, at 35/36. If you know Ludhiana, you know how busy the industrial areas get. We spend most of our time looking at turbochargers. They are complicated little things, and they get oily. The shop floor is usually covered in bits of metal and rags. It’s a noisy neighborhood with all the workshops nearby. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t even notice the sound of the machines anymore. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just sit outside for a bit until it comes back on. It gives us a chance to talk to the neighbors. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in town. We just handle the turbos that come our way. People bring them in from all over the place because they know we’ve seen pretty much every type of issue by now. The shelves are full of old casings and spare parts we’ve kept over the years. You never know when a random bolt might come in handy. It’s a lot of manual work. My clothes usually have oil stains that won't come out, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. We don't have a receptionist or a fancy waiting room. If you come by, you’ll probably find us in the back with a wrench in hand. That's just the way it works here. We keep a small stove for making coffee when it gets cold in the winter months.
