Hindustan Ispat

Hindustan Ispat is located at D-36 in the Focal Point area of Mandi. If you’ve spent any time in Mandi, you know the Focal Point is where all the heavy lifting happens. We deal with steel and iron products, so everything here is heavy and loud. There’s no avoiding the noise of metal clanging or the heavy trucks backing in to unload raw materials. Our space at D-36 is basically a big shell filled with stacks of metal. It’s not a clean environment; there’s rust dust and iron filings on everything, and our boots are always heavy with the dirt from the yard. We don't have a mission statement or any of that stuff. We just buy, store, and move steel. The guys here have been doing this for years, so they know how to handle the weight without getting hurt. We usually have a small stove for making tea in the corner, which is the only place that feels a bit like an office. Most of our day is spent checking inventories or helping a driver get his load secured properly. It’s hard work, and your back feels it by the end of the week. We don’t try to be anything we’re not. We’re just a steel yard in Mandi doing what needs to be done to keep the local builders supplied. We keep the gate open during the day and close up when the last truck leaves.
